Golf Coaching Built Around You.
Spokane Golf Coach & Creator of the SMRT Golf Method
I don’t believe every golfer should be forced into the same swing. Great coaching starts with understanding how you naturally move, identifying what is actually causing the problem, and giving you the tools to correct it.
My goal isn’t to make you dependent on golf lessons. It’s to teach you how your swing works, how to recognize what went wrong, and how to make the right adjustment so your improvement continues long after the lesson is over.

Golf Instruction Shouldn’t Make Golf More Complicated.
Too many golfers leave a lesson thinking about more things than they were before they started. They get told to copy certain positions, force specific movements, or rebuild their swing around a model that may not fit the way they naturally move.
Stop Chasing Positions
A golf swing is an athletic movement, not a series of frozen positions. I focus on helping you move better, stay balanced, improve your sequence, and understand what your ball flight is telling you instead of trying to force every golfer into the same swing.
Understand Why It Happened
Improvement becomes much easier when you understand why the ball did what it did. Instead of just giving you a quick fix, I want you to understand what caused the miss, what needs to change, and how to recognize it again when it happens.
Learn How to Fix It Yourself
My goal is not to make you feel like you need a lesson every time something goes wrong. I want to give you a simple process you can use on the range and on the golf course so you can recognize what is happening and make the right adjustment.
The Golf Swing Should be effortless and easy. I’m helping you build the best version of your own swing.
A Simpler Way to Understand Your Golf Swing.
SMRT Golf stands for Sports Movement Related Teaching. The idea is simple: golf should feel like an athletic movement, not a checklist of positions you are trying to remember.
I use movements and feelings you may already recognize from other sports to help make the golf swing easier to understand. Instead of giving you a long list of technical thoughts, we focus on what you should feel, why it works, and how it affects the ball.
That gives you something you can actually repeat when you practice and when you are on the golf course.
Start With Movement
Before worrying about positions, we look at how your body moves. Your balance, rotation, pressure, and sequence all affect the way you deliver the golf club.
Connect It to Something Familiar
If a movement feels familiar, it is easier to learn and repeat. I often relate golf movements to other athletic motions so the swing makes more sense instead of feeling completely foreign.
Understand the Ball Flight
The golf ball gives us information. We use the direction, curve, contact, and trajectory to understand what happened and decide what adjustment actually needs to be made.
Build Something You Can Repeat
A swing only helps you if you can use it without standing over the ball thinking about six different things. We work toward simple, repeatable feels that hold up when you are actually playing.
Less thinking over the ball. Better understanding between shots.
You should know what you are working on, why you are working on it, and what it should feel like when you do it correctly.
Years of Teaching Helped Me See Golf Differently.
My coaching philosophy did not come from trying to build one perfect swing. It came from years of working with different golfers, different body types, different learning styles, and different goals.
The more I taught, the more obvious it became that golfers improve faster when the lesson makes sense to them. That means understanding how they move, how they learn, what their ball flight is telling us, and what they can realistically repeat.
That is what led me to develop the SMRT Golf Method. Instead of forcing golfers into a model, I focus on helping them understand their own swing and giving them a simple process they can use to improve it.
Today, I work with golfers who want more than a quick tip. They want a coach who can help them understand their game, build confidence, practice with purpose, and make better decisions on the golf course.
Coach the Golfer, Not Just the Swing
Every golfer brings different movement patterns, goals, habits, and experiences. Coaching should reflect that.
Make Improvement Understandable
If you understand why something is happening, you have a much better chance of correcting it and repeating the right movement.
Build Skills That Last
Good coaching should help you become more independent, more confident, and more capable of managing your own game.
Built Through Years of Teaching Real Golfers.
My coaching approach has developed through years of teaching, playing, studying the game, and working with golfers in different environments. Every stage of that experience has helped shape how I communicate, diagnose problems, and build a coaching plan around the individual golfer.
Years in the Golf Industry
Years spent teaching, playing, learning, and working directly with golfers have shaped the way I coach today.
Personalized Coaching
Every golfer is coached differently based on how they move, how they learn, what they struggle with, and what they want to accomplish.
More Than Swing Mechanics
Coaching can include full swing, short game, course management, practice planning, mental approach, and learning how to play better golf.
Flexible Coaching Options
Golfers can work with me in person in Spokane or remotely through online coaching, depending on what fits their schedule and goals.
Every stage of my career has shaped the way I coach today.
What started as traditional golf instruction has grown into a complete coaching system focused on helping golfers understand, improve, and manage their own game.
Where It Started
My professional golf career began in Hawaii, including time at Ko Olina Golf Club and Kapolei Golf Club. Those early years gave me a strong foundation in the golf industry and exposed me to different players, teaching styles, and high-level golf environments.
Developing My Coaching Style
Working with golfers throughout the Spokane area gave me the opportunity to coach players with different goals, abilities, body types, and learning styles. That experience helped me move away from one-size-fits-all instruction and toward a more individualized approach.
GolfWithDC
I started GolfWithDC in 2019 to create a coaching business built around personalized instruction and long-term improvement. The goal was simple: coach the golfer in front of me, not force every player into the same swing model.
SMRT Golf
In 2020, I created SMRT Golf and began formalizing the teaching system that had developed through years of coaching. Sports Movement Related Teaching focuses on athletic movement, simple cause and effect, and helping golfers understand what they are doing instead of memorizing positions.
Complete Golf Performance Coaching
Today, my coaching goes beyond traditional swing lessons. I work with golfers through private instruction, playing lessons, simulator coaching, online support, structured practice, ongoing coaching, and the SMRT Golf Performance Institute to help improve the entire game.
Coaching for Golfers Who Want to Improve With a Plan.
You do not need to be a low-handicap golfer to work with me. What matters most is that you want to improve, you are willing to practice, and you want to understand your game instead of relying on random tips.
Newer Golfers
If you are new to golf, the goal is to build a strong foundation without overwhelming you. We focus on simple movement, solid contact, basic course skills, and helping you understand what actually matters early on.
Golfers Stuck in the Same Cycle
If you keep fixing the same miss, watching swing videos, or bouncing from one tip to the next, we work on finding the real cause of the problem and building a process you can repeat.
Committed Improvers
If you want to lower your scores and are willing to practice with purpose, we can build a more structured plan around your swing, short game, course management, and overall development.
Serious Performance Clients
For golfers who want a higher level of coaching, I also offer ongoing development, playing lessons, online support, and more complete performance programs built around long-term improvement.
Coaching works best when both of us do our part.
I will give you the tools, direction, feedback, and structure you need. Your job is to practice, stay consistent, and put those tools to work. Real improvement takes effort, but the process should always be clear.
Let’s Build a Better Golf Game With a Clear Plan.
Whether you need help with one part of your game or you are looking for a more complete coaching relationship, the first step is simply finding the right fit.
Tell me what you are working on, what you want to improve, and where you feel stuck. From there, we can decide which coaching option makes the most sense for you.
